Take this kiss upon the
brow!
And, in parting from you now, Thus much let me avow - You are not wrong who deem, That my days have been a dream; Yet if hope has flown away In a night, or in a day, In a vision, or in none, Is it therefore the less gone? All that we see or seem Is but a dream within a dream. Edgar
Allan Poe (1809-1849)

Throughout
Japan, hundreds of festivals are taking place every year. Some more
important than others.
It would be impossible to sum them all on this site; so therefor here a
selection of the vast supply.
Some of these festovals have their own website. The links to these sites are shown. The order in which the festivals appear does not reflect any ranking of what kind so ever.
The pictures you'll see are (mostly) taken directly from these sites. So, they must not be used for any other purpose. Should you want to use these pictures anyhow then please contact the webmaster of that particular site and ask for permission.
A
good deal of the here below mentioned websites are often exclusively in
Japanese.
You, who don't speak Japanese, not to worry. On the following site: http://www.excite.co.jp/world/english/web/you
can type (or copy & paste) in the field "URL:" the
address of
one of the links below. Then thick the selection button
(below
the "URL" field, yes)
and then just click on "Translate" (that is the orange-rimmed button)
on the right of the URL field. You'll get by return the Japanese site
neatly translated into English. Or something that strongly resembles
English anyway. With some goodwill you'll be able to grasp what's
written.
But, keep on searching. Undoubtedly there are other sites also offering
this kind of service (Google?).
Some
festivals have not yet conquered the internet and of others we were
able to gather special material (usualy pictures). Those festivals and
pictures we would like to share with you.
A series of beautiful pictures of some Kyoto festivals can be seen on Frantisek Straud's website (http://www.phototravels.net/japan/photo-gallery/japanese-festivals.html) Must visit... Please do.
Should you know about links to
festivals
in Japan, then please contact:
Wishing you a lot of reading- and surf-fun.
